Pre Shot Routine

A golfer’s pre shot routine is one of the most important parts of playing good golf. A consistent pre shot routine helps to get you focused on the shot at hand, get comfortable over the ball, aim correctly to your target and most importantly of all give you the best chance of playing a great shot.

Here are the steps to developing your own consistent pre shot routine (remember like anything in golf you need to practice this on the practice range)

preshot11. Stand behind your ball, think about what shot and club you want to play. (Watch a tour player go through his pre-shot routine, and you’ll almost never see him walk in from the side and make a practice swing right next to the ball. He faces the target from behind the ball, to visualize his shot, and makes a couple of gentle practice swings with his eyes on the target before stepping in)

preshot22. Pick an intermediate target just in front of the ball directly in line with where you want the ball to go.

3. Have a couple of rehearsal/practice swings

4. Move into the ball, positioning the club behind the ball ensuring it is aimed directly at your intermediate target.

preshot55. Move your feet into position, have a waggle of the club to relieve the tension in your arms.

6. Pull the trigger

Developing a simple pre shot routine that is performed consistently will help you play better shots more often and help to speed up play on the course.

Good Luck
