Putting is the most important part of your game and an improvement in your putting is the quickest way to lower your handicap.

The putting stroke like all golf shots requires you to take the putter back and through the ball on plane with a square clubface. This helps to roll the ball really well on the green leading to better putts and less lip-outs. A great practice drill to ensure your club is travelling on plane is to practice with the “Yes Putting Plane” make sure the heel of your putter stays in contact with the plane board in the back swing and follow through.

To help you swing the club on plane and therefore roll the ball well, when you set up to putt ensure that you position yourself so that your eyes are over the ball.

Another tip in help to swing the putter in the correct manner is during the set up ensure your right forearm is parallel with the shaft of the putter.

To help control the pace of your putts and ensure solid contact it is important to use “the Big Muscles” in your putting stroke and not let the wrists flick through impact. When practicing put a golf ball in between the grip of your putter and your right forearm take the putter back and through the ball maintaining the same pressure on your ball and forearm.
