Duncan Kegg is now holding club distance charting sessions at Mount Lawley Golf Club using Flightscope – book in for a session and work through your set of irons whilst Flightscope tracks your ballflight and determines the average distance of each club in your set. You will be provided with a number of reports including
- An overhead view of the dispersion of your golf shots
- An average carry distance and total distance of each club
- Specific distances for all shots for all clubs hit
- Launch angles and height averages for each club
The Pros know exactly how far they hit each club – why shouldn’t you?
Recently Duncan held an oncourse Long Drive competition during the Wednesday afternoon Stableford event using my new Flightscope Doppler Radar unit. Flightscope is a military grade tracking tool that accurately records your golf club’s movements through the hitting zone. It then tracks the ballflight of your golf shot providing valuable data that can assist in teaching and clubfitting, it can also be used during corporate events to help entertain your clients. Duncan is the owner of one of only 2 Flightscope machines in Western Australia and it is now being used at the Mount Lawley Golf Club to provide club members with industry leading Teaching and Clubfitting services
After recording the Wednesday field’s tee shots on the 11th hole a short summary and some screen shots showing pertinent data was sent to all golfers via email.
Some interesting statistics to come out of the 129 golf shots recorded
- The average launch angle was 10.2deg – the ideal range dependant on swing speed falls between 14-16deg
- The average angle of attack was .7deg downward – for maximum distance an upward attack angle of 2-3deg is desired.
- 76 of the 129 golf shots recorded were hit with a clubface that was open relative to the direction of the swing
- The average height of golf shots recorded was 14.8 meters – the PGA Tour average is 30 meters
- The average hang time (time of ball in the air) was 4.5 seconds – the PGA Tour average is 6.8 seconds
Whilst club members cannot expect to swing with the same speed as PGA Tour Professionals, they can be helped to achieve the maximum distance and accuracy with their tee shots that their swing speed can produce. These improvements can be achieved with a combination of
- Technique (better swing motions, better body angles, improved clubface angles etc)
- Correctly fitted equipment (the correct loft for your swing, the correct flex and weight in your golf club’s shaft)
- Better address positions (ball position, tee height)
Golf lessons and clubfitting using Flightscope is the best way to improve your game and increase your enjoyment on the golf course. Everything is measurable, you will understand your swing to a greater degree and you will be able to track your improvement.
