Last Monday night the Club held a Body Movement Evening with special guest Dr Eric Brukwinski (club member). Eric talked about some simple yet commonly overlooked areas that can not only hinder your golf performance but also lead to injuries keeping you out of the game.
Some highlights for me included
- The correct/safe way to lift your golf bag out of your car
- A safer way to bend over to place your tee in the ground
- Pushing your golf trolley safely
- The importance of a pre round warm-up including hitting practice balls (don’t start with your driver)
- On course stretches
- On course nutrition and fluid intake
- Stretches and exercises you can do at home that can help to avoid injuries and help your game (these stretches link in with the Pilates sessions held at the club on Tuesday and Friday mornings)
From a golf perspective I talked about the common incorrect positions golfers get into at address and how they can affect your swing. The main reasons for these incorrect postures from a golf perspective include
- Golfers misunderstanding or misinterpreting the correct procedure for an address position
- Incorrect grip size and or poor “tackiness” of grips
- Incorrectly fitted golf clubs
Thank you to all the members who attended and a big thanks to Lauren our Membership and Communications Coordinator who put together the evening.
