Our junior boys have taken out the Division Two pennant after a 4/3 defeat of Lake Karrinyup at Royal Perth today. After three matches were won easily – Jordan Jung 9/8, Azer Pehlic 8/6 and Jordan Doull 4/2 – the last win to seal victory proved to be difficult to get. In the end the win was achieved when Freddie Cassell held his nerve on the final hole to make par and defeat his opponent 1 up. The match see-sawed all day with Mount Lawley taking an early lead only to see Lake Karrinyup fight back through 18 holes. Our boys then took the upper-hand again through 27 holes and had to hang on to take out the contest.
Congratulations go to all of the boys who played throughout the season with special mentions to Jordan Jung and Freddie Cassell who remained undefeated and Jordan Flatman and Ben O’Callaghan who lost only one match. It was terrific to see the boys who were not selected to play each week turn out to caddy for and support their team mates.
The boys have trained hard and honed their match play skills under the direction of Junior Coordinator Ken Ashworth and major sponsor Derek Flatman on Tuesday afternoons. Arden Ashworth is to be commended on his terrific job as Boy’s Captain in his final year in junior ranks. Thanks also go to a wonderful group of supportive parents.
In a rare double, Mount Lawley has won both the junior girls’ and boys’ pennant this year.
