All players at Mount Lawley Golf Club are expected to repair all divots and pitch marks correctly, smooth out bunkers and correctly replace rakes in the marked location outside of the bunker.

When repairing a pitch mark on a green, the middle of the pitch mark should not be lifted. The correct method is to push the sides and front of the depression back into the middle. Only grass should be visible when the pitch mark is repaired properly – no soil should be visible.

It is a condition of play that all players carry a sand bucket and use the sand to repair divots. The sides of a divot should be knocked in with the toe of a club and a small amount of sand used to level the surface. Members choosing to carry their golf bags are not exempt from this requirement.

Bunkers

Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints. Use only enough pressure to smooth the surface. Avoid creating ridges in the sand.

  1. Always enter the bunker at the lowest point.
  2. Pull rake toward you as you exit the bunker until you come close to the point of exit.
  3. If required, rake other affected areas.
  4. As you exit do not pull sand towards the edge and pile sand at the edge of the bunker. Push back excess sand towards the middle of the bunker.
  5. Do not rake the face of the bunker. Smooth out with the back of rake.

Bunker Rake Policy

Always leave rake outside the bunker in the designated area marked with a blue “T”. Do not leave the rake in the bunker.

Repairing Ball Marks

  1. Always start at the back of the mark and push forward with the repairer.
  2. Use repairer around all sides and slowly ease turf toward the centre of the mark. Do not lift the soil upwards.
  3. Lightly tap down with putter.
  4. Your completed repair should be almost invisible.

Repairing Divots

  1. Do not replace the divot. Couch grass will not re-grow.
  2. Use the toe of your club to knock in the sides of the divot to bring grass back into the middle.
  3. Top dress the repaired divot with a small amount of sand and brush in to ensure a level surface.
  4. A correctly repaired divot will recover quickly.

Damage to Greens

Players and caddies should ensure they cause no damage to the green when putting down bags or the flagstick. They should not stand too close to the hole when handling the flagstick or removing the ball. Replace the flagstick on leaving the green.

  1. Don’t drop the flagstick on the putting surface as it will cause damage.
  2. Always lower the flagstick by club….or by hand.
  3. Avoid damage to surrounds by placing the stick in the centre of the cup.
