Your golf grip is critically important to your game! Placing your hands correctly on the club will help improve the distance and accuracy of your shots. To place your hands correctly on the club

1. Position your top hand so that your palm is pointing directly away from the target, hold the club in the base of your fingers and close your hand around the club so that your heel pad rests on the top side of the grip.

Place your lower hand on the grip by having your palm facing towards the target, hold the club in your fingers and connect your hands together by placing the lifeline of your lower hand over the thumb of your top hand. Baseball, overlap or interlocking grips are a matter of preference based on hand size, strength and comfort.

It is important to have the correct grip size on your clubs to ensure that you can place your hands correctly on the club without creating too much tension in your hands. Tension in the hands, wrists and forearms will destroy your ability to create speed and lead to a loss of distance. A good drill to feel the correct tension is to take your grip, hold the club as tightly as possible and call that 10/10 then hold club very, very softly and call that 1/10. The correct grip pressure should be 3-4/10.

Not only is it important to have the correct grip size on your clubs but your grips should be in good condition – if you play once a week you should replace your grips every year.
