Chipping

Practicing your chipping is one of the quickest ways to improve your handicap, being a good chipper can help you save your score when you’re in trouble and turn an average round of golf into a good one.

A key to good chipping is to ensure that you set up at address correctly some key points include

  1. Gripping down the club and standing closer to the ball for control
  2. Position the ball in the middle of your stance
  3. Lean more weight on your target side leg
  4. Push your hands forward slightly so that the grip end of the club is closer to the target than the clubhead

A good strategy to have when you are chipping is to carry the rough/bunker/trouble around the green and get the ball rolling as soon as possible. To understand the amount of roll you need experiment with chipping with different clubs to see how they react when landing on the green. The new chipping green to the side of the practice green is designed to offer you a number of different shots similar to what you will experience on the course.
