Rather than a golf tip this week I will provide a summary of the recent “Duncan’s Golf Trip” to Hua Hin in Thailand that was enjoyed by 33 Mount Lawley golfers.
Departing on Wednesday 5th August we flew on Thai Airways new Dreamliner direct to Bangkok before catching a very garish bus down to Hua Hin. After a quiet night where everyone settled into their luxury accommodation at the Hilton Hua Hin, we were transported out to Black Mountain Golf Course where we were treated to one of the best courses in Asia complete with caddies and
individual carts and a excellent practice range. That night the whole group enjoyed some great Thai seafood on one of the many restaurants out over the ocean.
Day two saw us journey out to Springfield Country Club – a Jack Nicklaus designed course that has hosted the Asian PGA Tour School the last few years this course was like Black Mountain in great condition with beautiful greens to putt on, aided by the local knowledge of our caddies.
Day 3 was a rest day from golf (that was appreciated by a few of us who thought we were karaoke stars) that afternoon Alan and Ian had kindly organised one of the local bars to to put both the
Eagles and Wallabies games on the big screen, serve some food and plenty of drinks.
Day 4 again saw our group hit the golf course this time at Banyan Golf Club – the 2014 winner of the “Best Course in Thailand” this great course winds its way through pineapple plantations and
has views out over the Bay of Thailand. Dinner that night for a lot of the golfers was enjoyed in one of the many Thai restaurants located at the night market, washed down with a few drinks at the
many bars.
Our final day’s golf saw us again visit Black Mountain, in slightly warmer weather we again saw some great golf played, many prizes won plus all the prize money handed out. The final day was again another rest day that was needed after the many celebratory drinks that were enjoyed the night previously. In a spectacular way to finish the trip we enjoyed a few cocktails at one of Bangkok’s fanciest rooftop bars with spectacular views over the city’s metropolis.
I would like to thank all the Mount Lawley members who came on this trip, we all had a great time, some excellent golf was played, some great and not so great singing voices discovered but most
importantly some lifetime friendships made as members get to play golf in an exotic location with other Mount Lawley members.
Planning is well underway for next year’s trip which promises to be even better with hopefully a new and spectacular location for members to enjoy. Please keep an eye out and make sure you
reserve your place early to avoid missing out.
